Drinking Guide

How to serve it
the way it deserves.

A short, practical guide to serving temperature, glassware, ice and mixing ratios — plus what a 60 ml, 180 ml, 375 ml or 750 ml bottle actually gets you.

Serving

Eight serves worth knowing

Whisky, neat

Pour 30 ml into a tulip or rocks glass at room temperature. Add nothing, or three drops of still water to open the aromatics.

Whisky, on the rocks

One large clear ice cube, not a handful of small ones — a single big cube melts slowly and keeps the dram from turning watery.

Highball

45 ml whisky, 120 ml chilled soda or ginger ale, plenty of ice, a long stir, then a lemon or orange twist over the top.

Gin & Tonic

50 ml gin, 150 ml chilled tonic, ice first, then gin, then tonic. Stir once. Garnish with lime; try orange or rosemary for a craft gin.

Rum & Cola

Dark or spiced rum over ice with cola, finished with a squeeze of lime — 45 ml rum to 150 ml cola is a good starting ratio.

Espresso Martini

30 ml vodka, 20 ml coffee liqueur, 30 ml fresh espresso, 10 ml sugar syrup. Shake hard with ice and strain — the foam comes from the espresso.

Sangria pitcher

Red wine, sliced citrus and apple, a spoon of sugar, plenty of ice. Let it sit 20 minutes in the fridge before serving.

White Russian

30 ml vodka, 20 ml coffee liqueur, top with cream or milk over ice — stir slowly so the cream settles on top.

🥃 Storing spirits: keep bottles upright, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Spirits do not spoil once opened — they simply soften over many months as oxygen gets in. Vermouth and cream liqueurs are the exceptions: refrigerate those once opened and use within a few weeks.
🍷 Storing wine: cool, dark, steady temperature. Serve reds slightly under room temperature and whites well chilled. Sparkling wine chills fastest in an ice bucket with water, not just ice.
